CONTACTS

Blue Mountains Bird Observers is a community group open to all who are interested in the bird life of the Blue Mountains, NSW. We have more than a hundred members, including some expert bird watchers and bird photographers from whom we all learn. New members are always welcome.

Field Trips

A popular activity of the group is its field trips, which are short bird-watching walks on the many bush tracks in these beautiful mountains. There is a morning walk on the third Wednesday of every month, weather permitting. Another walk, sometimes a little longer, takes place on the first Sunday of the month.

In addition to the walks, in February, May, August, and November we hold our Quarterly Meeting, on the second Saturday of the month at 1.30pm, at Maria Kinder Hall, 14 Somerville Street (off Wentworth Street), Wentworth Falls. At these meetings there is a talk, slide show or presentation with a birding theme, and a social afternoon tea.

Bird Lists

Members are encouraged to report the birds they have seen in their garden, township, on bushwalks or in other parts of the Mountains they have visited each month (though this is not compulsory). We have a special reporting form for this purpose.

These sightings are compiled into a monthly list which is sent to all members with the newsletter, along with notes on any interesting observations. An annual list of all species recorded throughout the mountains, month by month, is published at the end of each year.

Membership

Membership costs $20 per year. All members receive the monthly newsletter "Blue Mountains Bird Observer" which includes interesting bird sightings, trip reports, relevant articles, information about forthcoming walks, meetings and other bird-related events and the monthly bird list.

To join, come along to a Quarterly Meeting, or email us at bmbo@bmbirding.com.au.
